Where Concrete Removal Fits

Six common
concrete scenarios.

Concrete removal across Metro Detroit usually falls into these six scopes. Each has its own timeline and hauling demands.

01 / Driveway

Driveway replacement prep

Old concrete driveways removed for new pour, asphalt conversion, or permeable paver installation. Most standard two-car driveways finish in a single working day.

02 / Patio & Pool

Backyard concrete

Old patios, pool decks, and walkways removed for new hardscape or pool installation. Common prep before fiberglass or gunite pool installs.

03 / Foundation

Post-demolition foundations

Foundation-only scope after structures are torn down by others, or following fire and collapse cleanup. Includes basement walls, footings, and slab.

04 / Commercial

Parking lot concrete

Commercial parking lot concrete removed for resurfacing, ADA retrofit, or full lot reconfiguration. Coordinated for minimal tenant disruption.

05 / Retaining Wall

Retaining wall teardown

Aged poured or block retaining walls removed for landscape redesign or replacement. Includes drainage re-routing where required.

06 / Municipal

Sidewalks & curbs

Public sidewalk, curb, and ramp removal for ADA compliance or municipal infrastructure upgrades. Right-of-way permit coordination included.

How We Run Concrete Removal

Break. Load.
Recycle. Done.

Concrete is heavy. Hauling is most of the cost. We bring the trucks. We break. We load as we go. Most projects are broken, loaded, hauled, and the site graded in a single working day.

Concrete removal is a logistics problem more than a breaking problem. The equipment to break concrete is straightforward. The trucks to haul the weight, the facilities to dispose or recycle, and the coordination to do it in one visit are what separate fast work from slow work.

Every concrete scope we run shows up with trucks from day one. Broken material gets loaded as the work progresses, not stacked in the driveway overnight. Most residential scopes, including standard driveways and patios, are fully hauled and site-graded before we leave for the day.

Clean concrete goes to recycling wherever Metro Detroit facilities accept it. Recycled concrete aggregate is used in new construction base material and road work. Concrete with heavy rebar, contaminated material, or unique fills may require landfill disposal. Weight tickets from either route are available on request.

Concrete Removal FAQ

Questions we get
about concrete removal.

Cost per square foot, driveway timelines, recycling, permits, foundation-only scope, and debris hauling.

How much does concrete removal cost per square foot in Metro Detroit?

Concrete removal in Metro Detroit typically runs $2 to $6 per square foot. Driveways run $3 to $5 per square foot depending on thickness and rebar. Patios and walkways run $2 to $4 per square foot. Slab foundations with reinforcement average $4 to $8 per square foot. Actual pricing depends on concrete thickness, rebar presence, access to the site, and haul distance.

Can you remove a concrete driveway in one day?

Most residential driveway removals complete in one working day. A standard two-car driveway of 500 to 800 square feet is typically broken and hauled in six to eight hours. Larger driveways, heavily reinforced concrete, or driveways with poor equipment access may extend into a second day. Timing includes breaking, loading, and haul-away to the disposal or recycling facility.

Do you recycle concrete or does it go to landfill?

Liora Works directs concrete to recycling facilities whenever available. Most Metro Detroit concrete disposal sites accept concrete for crushing into recycled aggregate, used for new construction base material and road work. Concrete with heavy rebar or contaminated material may require landfill disposal. Weight tickets from recycling versus landfill are available on request for documentation.

Do I need a permit to remove a driveway or patio?

Permit requirements for concrete removal vary by city and scope. Driveway replacement in most Metro Detroit municipalities requires a permit because it affects the right-of-way apron and sometimes the sidewalk. Interior slab removal usually does not require a permit. Foundation removal requires a demolition permit. Liora Works handles permit applications where required and itemizes costs in the estimate.

Can you remove concrete foundations as a standalone scope?

Yes. Foundation-only concrete removal is a common standalone scope. Previous building owners may have torn down the structure and left foundations in place. Developers clearing a site for new construction may need foundations removed after above-grade demolition by others. Liora Works provides foundation-only concrete removal with site grading and haul-away included.

Do you handle hauling, or do we need a separate dumpster?

Debris hauling is part of every concrete removal scope. Concrete is heavy and haul-intensive, so trucks are onsite from the start of the job with continuous loading as breaking happens. No separate dumpster rental. No coordination with a third-party hauling company. One contract covers break, load, haul, and disposal or recycling.
